Matthew Thompson is a Managing Director within Stable Rock’s Accounting & CFO Services practice. Matthew brings more than 18 years of experience in public accounting and outsourced accounting services, helping businesses improve financial operations, enhance reporting, and leverage technology to drive growth. He specializes in building scalable accounting functions, developing high-performing teams, and delivering strategic financial insights that support business decision-making.
Prior to joining Stable Rock, Matthew served as Principal and National Director of Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS) for Hill, Barth & King (HBK), a Top 50 public accounting firm. He is recognized for his ability to combine technical accounting expertise with operational leadership, creating scalable service delivery models, integrating technology and automation, and developing both domestic and offshore teams to support sustainable growth.
Matthew has extensive experience in outsourced accounting, financial reporting, month-end close management, accounting process improvement, technology implementation, and advisory services. He is particularly passionate about helping business owners gain timely financial visibility and actionable insights through efficient accounting operations and data-driven decision making.

Matthew earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from West Virginia University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in both Pennsylvania and North Carolina and is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife and children, watching his daughter play softball, fishing, tackling home improvement projects, and enjoying the outdoors with his family.
